i have always been interested in people, and how they relate to the world around them. this led me to sociology.
in 2005, i started to become fascinated by how technologies transform the way people relate to the world around them. so began investigations in people + technology
it started with the iPod. in 2006 i wrote my dissertation at the london school of economics:: commuters + mp3 players = altered_experience - of the city, of space, of others, of the self. the article follows, it is also due to be published in new media & society in 2009.
it continued with internet and mobile technologies. in early 2007 i joined the digital natives project, first as research assistant, then as research coordinator, at the berkman center for internet & society at harvard university.
digital natives investigates the implications of a generation growing up connected - to others, to information, to the world. looking at a wide range of issues related to youth technology practices, my focus was on identity & privacy. as a project we concentrated on the implications of youth digital media research for educators and policymakers: how should they address the new issues & possibilities of a generation growing up immersed in a digital world?
investigations of what changes once people become people+technology have continually lead me to the power of design.
the objects and systems with and within which we operate transform our relationships, our societies, and ourselves.
i want not to be silent in their design.
since october 2008, i have been studying design & electronics at saint martins college of art & design, continuing to work on digital natives, learning to use all kinds of software, reading a lot, observing a lot, dreaming a lot...and building this site.
enjoy.
